Here’s some coffee for ya!

This is just a bit of blog to address the ongoing blogging and forum discussions about Social Media Networking and it’s effectiveness on creating new clients or increasing business.

I see it being discussed in detail quite often on a bunch of different sites, and have seen a LOT of different opinions on whether or not it is effective for increasing revenue. At the same time, I am seeing a lot of NEW social sites being created, and promoted almost shamelessly across other forums or blogs.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot to be said for those that want to “strike” out on their own, however, if you’re going to create something, have something to really offer rather than just saying, “come join our website and add to the absolutely Insane number of people that just want to promote their business anyway”.

Once you have decided to join any Social Site(s), make sure you have taken the time to do your homework and find out what demographic dominates that particular site.

If you are a service based Company that offers B2B services and hope to find a ton of clients on a site that has mainly college students, be prepared for a long ride in attracting new business as they will have to graduate before you can actually capitalize on their needs. However, if you are a consumer based service company and have some kind of niche product or service that attracts that demographic, then make sure you take the time to learn the language that attracts them and do your most “shameless” promoting possible. The reason is on social sites you will notice that many times there’s a lot of “noise” that goes on daily and can take away any focus on your particular company and what it offers.

Similarly, if you have a product that speaks for itself, don’t over promote it as it can easily become annoying to your potential customers. You have to create the right marketing message, or teaser, to get to your target audience without downloading. At the same time giving them enough info that they want to know more.

One of the best things about social media networks is that once you do find new clients there, they know you on a different level. It’s a level where they are more comfortable doing business with you, and can feel more confident that they are involved with a company that has a genuine interest in what they are looking for.

Bottom line…if you decide to use Social Media Networking sites, be sure of where you are, where you will be, and who will see you.  Then make sure you use the right language to reach your target audience and get their attention so they will look for you or your product or service. Once you have figured that out, it will be a more effective campaign for your business and most likely will produce a greater return on your investment of time.
